DC CMA is getting a group together to see the play “The Swallow” on June 6th at 7:30 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the link below. Interested in going? Reach out to Cody T or Victor S.
About this play:
The play “La Golondrina” (“The Swallow”) by Spanish writer Guillem Clua (SMILEY, Netfilx) brings together Amelia and Ramón. Amelia, a strict singing teacher, receives Ramón at her home because he wants to improve his vocal technique to sing at his recently deceased mother’s mass. As the lesson progresses, the two characters reveal details of their past, a past deeply marked by the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando where 49 members of our LGBTQ+ community were killed in the second deadliest mass shooting in the USA.
The true meaning of that attack, the motivations of the shooter, and the lingering shadow of its victims lead to a confrontation between Amelia and Ramón that forces them to uncover the truth. This truth compels them to reflect on their own identities, the acceptance of loss, and the fragility of love, laying themselves bare to such an extent that their fates become forever intertwined.
TRIGGER WARNING: This play explores themes of mass shootings and may be triggering for survivors of gun violence or those who have experienced trauma related to gun violence.
