Wired Ethernet is best; strong Wi-Fi works too. Avoid joining from a moving vehicle — drop-outs disrupt the flow of the meeting and make it hard for others to hear shares.

When several attendees are in the same room or running speakers + a mic at once, audio loops back into the call as a delayed echo. Headphones (any kind) eliminate it instantly.

Background noise — typing, dogs, traffic, fans — broadcasts to the whole meeting. Most clients show a push-to-talk shortcut (hold Space in Zoom) so you can quickly speak up without leaving yourself muted.

Faces help the room feel like a meeting instead of a phone call. If your space isn't camera-ready, that's fine — but consider using a plain virtual background or just your name.

First name + last initial works well (e.g. Alex M). It helps the chair acknowledge you and keeps the participant list scannable for trusted servants on door duty.

The waiting room (when used) opens shortly before the start time. Joining 5 minutes early lets the host admit you, gives you a moment to greet others, and keeps the meeting itself on schedule.

Try leaving and rejoining the meeting first — it resolves most audio/video issues. If you can't get in at all, check the meeting page for an updated Zoom link or reach out via the contact info on the home page.
